1st Birthday Party!

We celebrated West's first birthday with our immediate family the day after he turned one, and it couldn't have been any more perfect.  We wanted to keep it small and simple so we just ordered pizza and I baked the cake myself (yellow cake mix with chocolate chips added - chocolate frosting for the main cake and funfetti frosting for West's cake).  We didn't do any theme just because he doesn't really have favorites of anything yet.  Instead of a theme, we just had lots of fun "West" details, like a banner made up of his monthly pictures, his baby book up-to-date and on display, and lots of pictures of him up and around the house.  We thought that for his first birthday we could get by without much more than that.  :)

As far as the day's events, we ate lunch pretty soon after everyone arrived, then had cake and ice cream, watched West's first year video, opened presents, and finally topped it off by playing outside.  He was such a little ham when everyone was singing him "Happy Birthday" and watching him take the first bites of his cake.  He was putting on a little show!  He didn't really care for the cake, though.  He hardly ate any of it, though he sure enjoyed destroying it.

It was such a blast having both our families together.  We've always known they all love our little guy so much, but seeing it all at the same time and place was absolutely humbling.  He is such a loved little boy!!!

And a HUGE thanks to Natalie for taking pictures so I could enjoy the moment!!!!!!!
